Connect with Nature

Whether venturing out with others or taking some necessary alone time, make the most of spring’s warmer weather by taking a walk or going for a jog in the fresh air and sunlight. Finding a green space to exercise in releases endorphins, helping to alleviate stress. Yoga is a great low-impact alternative for those looking to improve their fitness levels. As well as uniting the mind, body and soul, joining a group yoga class also allows for some social time and can create a supportive network to lean on. There’s a strong belief that feeling the earth beneath your bare feet has a positive, grounding effect, so try it out next time you’re in the park.

Vibrant Blooms

As well as their aesthetic appeal, the presence of fresh flowers in the home is believed to improve mood and mental wellbeing. From joy-inducing hues of sunshine yellow to the regal shades of deep purple, there are countless combinations that can brighten up the home.

Did you know each month of the year has its own birth flower with a unique meaning behind each? For the spring season, consider daffodils for March (representing new beginnings, rebirth, and happiness), daisies for April (representing innocence and loyalty), lily of the valley for May (representing humility, sweetness and motherhood) and roses in June (representing love and devotion).

If you are a pet-owner, please always check which flowers are safe to have in the home.

Update your Library

Nourish your mind as well as your body by delving into a new book or podcast. As well as providing mental stimulation, reading before bed, as opposed to spending time in front of a screen, is also thought to improve quality of sleep.

Soothe Stress

Whether it's lighting a lavender scented candle, making your favourite hot drink or running a warm bath, ease your mind by indulging in a moment of relaxation at home. In the world of beverages, matcha is currently having its moment, and for good reason. A type of green tea which originates from China and is used in many traditional Japanese rituals and recipes, matcha has been consumed for thousands of years and is believed to have many health virtues, from its stress-relieving effects to antioxidant benefits. Today, you’ll find many iterations of matcha in cafes and health shops, try making your own at home using ceremonial-grade matcha powder, a tea bowl (Matcha-Chawan), a bamboo whisk (Chasen), a bamboo ladle (Chashaku) and tea strainer.

Another simple-yet-effective method for soothing stress is to practice mindful breathing. Take some time in your day to focus on deeply inhaling and exhaling for about five seconds at a time, this helps to relax the body and calm the mind. If struggling to concentrate, mobile apps such as Headspace and BreathGuru offer guided meditations.
