With a honeymoon one of the most unforgettable moments of a couples’ life, finding the perfect honeymoon destination is an important decision. Be it a sun-drenched escape to a tropical island or an agenda-packed bucket spot, discover the best holiday destinations for couples.
TUSCANY, Italy
For both a gastronomic and culture-rich combination, head to beautiful Tuscany, amongst the beautiful rolling Italian hills. Live La Dolce Vita with expeditions to local vineyards, or forage for truffles which could later be enjoyed with a meal. When it comes to where to stay, Castelfalfi provides a touch of luxury, whereas Oasyhotel is a more rustic alternative for lovers of the outdoors. If wanting to explore further afield, take day trips to Florence and Pisa.
When it comes to dressing, embrace an elevated-yet relaxed wardrobe with lightweight linens or a romantic floral dress. Add a cardigan as a lightweight layer for the evening – also useful for the plane. Plus, at just over a two-hour flight from the UK, Tuscany could also be the perfect option for a shorter mini-moon.
GREEK ISLANDS
There’s nothing quite like a Grecian getaway, overlooking the Med, especially on a romantic honeymoon. Whether in search of a single, iconic destination such as Crete, Mykonos or Santorini, or a foray across a few, island hopping, each island offers its own dose of culture, traditional Greek food at a family owned taverna, and gorgeous beach views. My travel secret is to go to a lesser-known isle such as Cyclades or Tinos for a more authentic (read: less touristic) experience.
With summer temperatures reaching the mid 30s, an easy, lightweight wardrobe is necessary – often with a swimsuit and shorts being the perfect combination. In the evenings, a maxi beach dress and sandals will suffice.
TOKYO, Japan
With Japan one of the top travel destinations for 2024, and a location that comes up frequently in my podcast, Travel Secrets, travel to wonderful Tokyo for a honeymoon experience as a couple like no other. Embrace the old by visiting one of many beautiful temples across the city, as well as the new luxury in the city’s luxury shopping and entertainment district, Ginza. Just five minutes from this, The Peninsula Tokyo is located opposite the Imperial Palace and the Hibiya Park, an incredible hotel for an overnight stay, or even a visit to the rooftop bar.
In terms of dressing, with Tokyo one of the most fashionable cities in the world, embrace a slick figure in a tailored pair of trousers and beautiful blouse, with a light leather jacket for when the evening comes.
THE MALDIVES
If your ideal honeymoon encompasses a blissful, do-not-disturb vacation, there is no choice but The Maldives. With hundreds of beautiful hotels on offer, perfect for a variety of budgets, book a week in an over-water villa and take advantage of some of the world’s best scuba diving. Take the opportunity of the quiet to take a digital detox, and check into your hotel’s spa for a couples’ treatment or even a moment of solace. Bring at least one book in your suitcase and leave the work laptop at home.
An island getaway needs suitable wardrobe, channel tropical prints with a chic beach combination. An oversized linen blouse is also a necessity as the perfect get-up-and-go item.
COMPORTA, Portugal
Another beautiful location, and a trending honeymoon destination for 2024 the town of Comporta is located approximately an hour south of Portugal’s capital, Lisbon. Known for its beautiful beaches (specifically Praia da Comporta) and incredible outdoor activities such as horseback riding, or a boat trip across the incredible Sado Estuary nature reserve where you can spot wildlife such as flamingos, dolphins and more. In terms of where to stay, Almalusa Comporta opened less than two years ago, and just a 15-minute walk to the beach.
A stylish location deserves a stylish wardrobe, so look at an embroidered mini dress or stylish shirt dress as an everyday piece, then a white co-ord on top of swimwear to enhance your tan.
