How to Wear Print this Season

There is no print that’s too loud for 2022. We are heading into a vibrant and colourful summer, so boost your wardrobe with energetic prints. With anything from animal print to rugby stripes and everything that’s in-between - prints are the must have look for this summer. As a stylist I tell my clients to have fun with prints, add colour, don't hold back, and don't be afraid to layer and clash. Prints this season are full of personality and will play a fun and essential role in the looks I put together this year.

The Zebra Print

The zebra print is a true icon and the leading print on the current catwalks. It's an easily wearable and versatile print because of its monochrome nature, so it can be paired with your choice of bright colourful accessories. The zebra print is timeless and a great investment since it can be paired with items you may already have due to its neutral colour way.

This Karen Millen zebra print tailored suit is perfect as it can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. Have an evening event or wedding to go to? This will look amazing with colour pop heels and a bright clutch. Need a cool daytime look? Pair it with a t-shirt and trainers as a more casual alternative.

Statement stripes

Stripes might sound slightly boring, but they are back on trend in a big way. We are still embracing stripes and there is no better time to experiment with them than now. Think vertical, horizontal, diagonal, as long as your stripes are loud and making a statement then you're doing it right. The stripe can be paired with a simple silhouette and basic accessories, but those that truly win with stripes are those brave enough to mix them with other patterns, using one print to dominate and one to accent. Mixing stripes with patterns will elevate your look to a whole new level of cool this year. This large striped 60s inspired dress would look amazing with large gold earrings and a chunky bracelet.

Tie-dye

This psychedelic, powerful and chaotic print associated with the 60s and 70s has made a dramatic comeback! Tie-dye is the most playful of all the prints and can instantly liven up your wardrobe and inject colour.

I adore a long sleeved tie-dye dress, it truly has to be one of my favourites from this trend, it provides an instantly fashionable look without having to think about co-ordinating pieces. I would style this piece with simple gold earrings and a strappy high heel. If, for summer you’d prefer a sleeveless alternative, consider a bohemian sleeveless design - perfect for the woman who wants to look effortlessly stylish. Something like this is great for a beach holiday or a lunch date accessorised with strong sunglasses and bag.

Leopard Print

Leopard print stands the test of time, so search for pieces that you can recycle and re-wear with most of your wardrobe. This summer is the time to lean into leopard, rather than just accessorise with the print, go for a full head-to-toe look.

This stunning two-piece is fabulous as a full look that you can take from day to night, with either flats or a red heel to add a pop of colour. If you don't feel that daring, the pieces are the perfect separates.

Florals

Florals have taken pole-position as the must-have pattern from striking bolds, sketched designs and big graphic florals. Print on colour, print on print.

The floral print works well from day to evening looks and is most expressive in all over silhouettes or matching sets.

I love the drama in these wide leg trousers. The mirrored print and the sketched florals make them the perfect trousers for an Ibiza evening or a summer wedding. I would style these with a platform heel to elongate the legs and the matching top or a printed bralette for that hot summer evening abroad.

Print has always been a huge part of my own personal wardrobe, as well as in the looks that I put together for my celebrity clients, so to see prints so on-trend this summer is exceptionally exciting. When it comes to print, live by my mantra - be brave, have fun, and don’t be afraid to clash.
