Established in 1981, Karen Millen has a long history of delivering timeless, premium pieces with exclusivity at the heart. For over four decades, our design-led philosophy has ensured our garments transcend trends, while also maintaining a contemporary edge. In celebration of this heritage, the KM design team delved into the '00s fashion archives, selecting three original Karen Millen dresses to form a modern day collection. Identifying five signature design codes, the team created 15 new pieces, curated for cocktail hour AW24.
We loved the original monochrome treatment of Archive Style 001 and decided to incorporate a sharp contrast technique to define and elevate the bow motif, creating a dynamic design which remains timeless.
Inspired by the original folding and manipulation of Archive Style 001, we conceived a modern wide leg cocktail trouser in polished stretch crepe fabric, with a manipulated taffeta folded peplum. The result: a flattering and modern alternative to an occasion dress.
The bow motif of Style 001 has been extended, creating a truly dimensional effect. The design envelopes the wearer, wrapping over the shoulder with ease. The bow proportion is blown up, almost covering the playful little mini dress silhouette.
We honoured the hand-folded and pressed pleated technique of Archive Style 002 and modernised it with a shot of siren red, a fashion-forward draped sleeve and flyaway sash.
Taking the original pattern of Archive Style 003 and repositioning the ruffles led us to this incredible textured Bardot shape. Arranging the ruffles diagonally across the frame and off the hem accentuates the figure form silhouette.
